Easy Guidelines To Buying Domain Names

By Carol Oubre

Most people say that buy domain name is difficult. The truth is, buying domain names is rather easy but picking the right one is the difficult part. You have to choose the best available domain name to increase your chances for success with your website, especially if you will use it for business purposes. Buying a domain name is probably the most significant step you have to take in the process of building your website or online business.

You may be wondering where you can actually buy a domain name. You'll need to find an accredited domain name registrar or one of their agents. In most cases, your Web hosting company has connections to site registrars that would enable you to buy domain name and Web hosting account in a single transaction. This is simple and convenient, however, it's not always the cheapest choice. You can opt to buy a domain name from any authorized dealer; you are not in any way bound to go through your Web hosting company. The prices for domain name registration vary, and this is one aspect where it pays to shop around.

Before you buy domain name, decide what type of domain you want to have for your site. If you intend to market your business at a particular region, it is recommended that your domain name ends with a national suffix. But if you are aiming to venture into the international market, then pick an international top level domain such as .com, .net and .org. You can buy an international domain name from national and international registrars. In general, buying a domain name from a global registrar is cheaper than buying it from a local company.

You probably have seen different top level domain extensions such as .net, .tv, .uk, .eu, among others. If you are engaged in business, it is generally recommended that you buy domain name with the .com extension. Top level names that end with the .com extension also tend to be more popular. Most people will usually type in .com by habit when they are trying to recall your site name. However, there is one exception, you can buy domain names with the .net and .org extensions in order to prevent anyone with your name from taking advantage of the reputation you have built over time.

Another way to buy domain name that is already taken is to try to acquire it once it's being released. There are cases when owners forget to renew their domain on time or they simply lose interest in it, and, after the allotted grace period, the domain is available again. Buying expired domain names allows you to take advantage of the age of the domain, and acquire it at a regular price.
